LTI Regatta
Keeping Your Team Afloat
Unlike many simulations, which involve model toys or
role-plays, your team(s) designs and builds actual boats
that carry select team members. This unique activity models
the project cycle from concept and design, through
marketing and production, and finally, field-testing. As is
often the case at work, initially the project objectives
may seem quite impossible, given the materials and
resources provided. Ultimately, the team will discover that
they can stay afloat by planning and using teamwork. This
activity has specific site requirements.
SELECTED COMPONENTS
The Design Process
Filtering through ideas, impressions, misconceptions and
expectations, the team must develop a common plan for
moving forward. This conceptualization comes easier to some
but requires the input and feedback from all to be
successful.
Skill Focus: development of common goals, communication of
conceptual ideas, adherence to specific requirements,
maximizing resources,
building consensus/support
A Marketing Plan
Businesses cannot succeed without customers, nor can they
succeed without continually meeting customer needs/demands.
The team is charged with developing and producing a
marketing campaign, which demonstrates their understanding,
concern, and responsiveness to their customer population.
Skill Focus: balancing personal/team objectives with
external expectations, customer service, listening,
influencing without authority, coordination
The Race
Eventually we all have to put our money-where-our-mouth-is.
This is the team's opportunity to demonstrate first-hand
how well they have met or exceeded their customers'
expectations. It's time to sink or swim.
Skill Focus: support and commitment, handling success or
failure, professional presentation & presence,
leveraging resources, performing under pressure
