Stress
Management
Stress is an increasing reality for most of us. We are all
being pressured from many different directions.
Participants explore how they can be contributing to their
own stress and how to take a more proactive approach to how
they manage their stress levels. Participants learn to view
stress as a part of every day life. This is a process
focused on awareness, understanding, and control. We
explore specific coping strategies for dealing more
effectively with the stress in our lives.
The group will focus on:
• Understanding What Causes Us Stress
Stress can mean different things to different people.
Understanding what specifically causes you stress, is the
first step.
• Acting From Your “Circle of
Influence/Control”
Let go of the things over which we have no control and
learn to focus on areas where we can make a difference.
• Being Proactive Versus Reactive
Approaching life proactively can put us back on track.
Explore what you can do on an ongoing basis to minimize
stress.
• Taking the Initiative And Accepting Accountability
Knowing that we are responsible for our actions is
fundamental to effectiveness. Once we accept that
responsibility, we can explore ways of moving forward, one
step at a time.
• Developing Effective Coping Strategies
Different strategies work for different people. Creating a
personalized coping strategy for everyday use can help all
of us deal with stress.
• Communicating When Under Stress
Participants learn to identify their own and others’
communications patterns including: the blamer, the avoider,
the placater, the distracter, and the leveler. They also
explore what happens to our communications when we are
stressed.
